Bristol, since 1934
BLOC Productions is an award-winning musical theatre company that has been performing light opera and musicals in Bristol for over ninety years. We exist to promote the performing arts in the region, and to give talented amateur performers the opportunity and the encouragement to do their best work.
We are the only non-professional company able to perform once a year at the Bristol Hippodrome, where we have a reputation for shows of a highly professional standard. We were the first company offered the rights to Evita by the Really Useful Company, and one of the first offered Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
In 2025 we were invited by Cameron Mackintosh and Music Theatre International to be one of only eleven clubs in the UK granted a one-off licence to stage an amateur premiere of the full version of Les Misérables, as part of the show’s fortieth anniversary. Every production features spectacular staging and a large live orchestra.

What we look for, and when we rehearse
Each year we look particularly for new members with a triple-threat combination of all-round musical theatre skills: strong vocalists, confident dancers and movers, and convincing actors with an engaging stage presence.
The company rehearses on Mondays for company numbers and Wednesdays for principals’ scenes, mostly at Newman Hall on Grange Court Road, from 7.30pm to 10.00pm. Rehearsals begin six to seven months before show week, and for the four weeks before the show there are all-day Sunday rehearsals as well. Other venues around Bristol are used from time to time.

There is a job here for you
BLOC is run entirely by volunteers. Performers audition each spring, but the company also needs people backstage, in wardrobe, on the front of house team and on the committee. No experience is required for most of it.
