Everyone here is a volunteer

BLOC is run entirely by its members. Nobody on stage or behind it is paid, and the company only works because people give it their evenings. There is more to do than perform, and most of it needs no experience at all.

On stage

Auditions

We look for a triple-threat combination of all-round musical theatre skills: strong vocalists, confident dancers and movers, and convincing actors with an engaging stage presence.

We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and welcome applications from talented people of every background. If you have access requirements, or cannot offer all three skills for any reason, tell us and we will make every effort to let you show us the skills you do have.

Rehearsals are Mondays for company numbers and Wednesdays for principals’ scenes, mostly at Newman Hall on Grange Court Road, 7.30pm to 10.00pm. They begin six to seven months before show week, and for the last four weeks there are all-day Sunday rehearsals too.

The other two thirds of a show

A week at the Hippodrome takes far more people than appear in the programme’s cast list. If any of this sounds like you, we would like to hear from you.
