BLOC has been staging shows in Bristol since 1934. The programmes are the best record we have of who did what — casts, bands, crews, the people who ran front of house — and for many productions they are the only record left.
We publish them because a ninety-year history nobody can look at is not much of a history. But a programme is also a list of real people’s names, usually alongside their photographs, and almost none of those people imagined it being readable from anywhere in the world. So we apply some rules to it.
Programmes that show children
If a programme names or pictures anyone who was a child at the time, we do not publish it until the production is twenty-five years old. By then the youngest person in it is an adult and able to decide for themselves.
Until that point the production’s page says the programme is being held back, and the file is not available to anyone.
Asking us to take something down
If you appear in a programme or a photograph on this site and would rather not, email hello@bloc.productions, or fill in the contact form and we will remove it. You do not need to give a reason and we will not ask you for one.
It helps if you can tell us:
- the production and the year
- the name as it appears, if it is a programme
- roughly whereabouts you are in the picture, if it is a photograph
We will act as quickly as we can, and in any case within one month.
Removing a programme takes the whole thing down. If feasible we will attempt to redact your name, photo and details, and allow the rest of the programme to remain accessible. If this would prefer the entire programme be removed, please let us know.
How we think about this
We are a charity run by volunteers, keeping a record of an amateur company’s work for the people who were part of it and the people who come after. We think that record is worth having. We also think nobody should have to argue their way out of it, which is why the answer to a removal request is yes.
