The Bristol Light Opera Club staged Victor Herbert’s Naughty Marietta, in a version revised by Phil Park, at the Bristol Hippodrome from Monday 7th to Saturday 12th November 1960, with Barbara Bradshaw in the title role and Malcolm Daw as Captain Dick. Eileen Vaughan produced, Vernon Jones was musical director and conductor, and Janet Rogers was choreographer, while marionettes were “supplied, dressed and worked by Kathryn Gage”. Monday was “Civic Night”, welcoming the Lord Mayor and the Sheriff, and parties were booked for every night of the week. The programme’s thanks include Bristol Zoological Gardens “for supplying parrot” and “‘Sooty’ the donkey by kind permission of Georges Brewery”, and its back page announced Kismet for November 1961.
