From Tuesday 1st to Saturday 5th November 1988 the Bristol Light Opera Club presented Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!, set in Indian Territory “just after the turn of the Century”, at the Bristol Hippodrome, nightly at 7.30 with a Saturday matinee. Clare Hardy directed, Roderick Young was musical director and Tina Kelly choreographed, with Ken Colbeck and Carole Lockwood as Curly and Laurey. In his greetings for the club’s “55th year”, chairman Alan Seager reported that “the Light” had applied to register as a charity to attract sponsorship, “for remember, we are not in receipt of any subsidy from public funds!”, and paid tribute to Freddie Neath, “a vital figure in the Light Opera Club for some 53 years”, who had died at Easter.
