The Bristol Light Opera Club staged The Dubarry, “a musical comedy romance” in Eric Maschwitz’s revised version with music by Carl Milloecker, at the Hippodrome, Bristol, from Monday 12th to Saturday 17th November 1962, playing nightly at 7.30 p.m. It was the Club’s second production of the show, which appears under 1954 in the list of previous productions, with Barbara Bradshaw as Jeanne Becu and Bob Bradshaw as Louis XV. Eileen Vaughan produced and set the chorus choreography, Vernon Jones conducted the augmented Hippodrome Orchestra, and the dances were arranged by Miss Bettie Vowles, whose pupils made up most of the dancers. The programme’s synopsis asks the audience to “accept ‘The Dubarry’ as a woman of moral integrity and high ideals”.
