In November 1978 the Bristol Light Opera Club staged Lerner and Loewe’s Gigi, in which a young Parisienne is taught “the art of charm and allure”, for two weeks at the Bristol Hippodrome. Sally Noble reproduced the original direction, and several principal roles were double-cast across the run. Saturday 11th November was a “Charity Gala Night” in aid of the Bristol & District Spina Bifida Association, with a gala buffet on stage after the evening performance “for an additional £5”. The 20p programme welcomes a long list of visiting parties, among them the Lord Mayor and the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort, remembers Bobbie Burns, “Stage Director for twenty years”, and records that the show was entered for the Evening Post Rose Bowl and the Butlin Awards.
