From 2nd to 13th December 1975 the Bristol Light Opera Club presented Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II’s Showboat, following the “Cotton Blossom” and its company on the Mississippi, at the Bristol Hippodrome, with Alison Hembury as Magnolia, Roderick Young as Ravenal and Brian Harding as Captain Andy. Ken Price produced, David Clarke was musical director and Jill Gilbert choreographed a company with separate white and black choruses and dancers. M. P. Kemp and Casey’s Camping were thanked “for help in building the Boat”. The 10 pence programme lists parties welcomed each night, including a Civic Night for the Lord Mayor and a Gala Night on 6th December, and announces “OKLAHOMA” for autumn 1976.
