From Tuesday 12th to Saturday 23rd November 1974 the Bristol Light Opera Club presented Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I, set at the court of Siam in the 1860s, at the Bristol Hippodrome, with Cicely Meyer as Anna and Brian Harding as the King. Sally Noble produced, Eric Davis was musical director and Lynn Britt choreographed the Act II ballet. “A souvenir programme” costing “Ten pence”, it lists the dozens of parties welcomed each night, from a Gala Night on the 12th to a “Civic Night” for the Deputy Lord Mayor, and names two teams of Royal Children on alternate performances. It closes by announcing the club’s autumn 1975 production, “Show Boat”.
