From Monday 10th to Saturday 15th November 1952 the Bristol Light Opera Club presented The Song of Norway, “an operetta based on the life and music of Edvard Grieg”, at the New Empire Theatre, Bristol, with the week given “in aid of local charities”. The programme’s story notes, signed “J. H.”, point out that all the melodies in the opening scene “are taken from the famous Concerto in A Minor”. The Club’s own dancers were joined by members of the Bristol Ballet Club for the Waltz Eternal, Peer Gynt and Concerto ballets, and the New Empire Orchestra, led by David Gough, was augmented by additional players. The programme cost sixpence.
