From Monday 9th to Saturday 14th November 1953 the Bristol Light Opera Club presented Pink Champagne, billed as “a new version of ‘Die Fledermaus'” by Johann Strauss, adapted by Eric Maschwitz and Bernard Grun “from the Vienna Production of 1874”, at the New Empire Theatre, Bristol. The week was “in aid of local charities”, and the Club announced donations to charity of “over £330” in recent years. The pink “champagne” drunk on stage was supplied by the Cleveland Wine Co. of London, whose Delamotte Rosé was “on sale in the Theatre Bar”. Dancing was arranged by Dorothy Woods of the Bristol Ballet Club, whose members danced alongside the Club’s own dancers.
