In November and December 2004 the Bristol Light Opera Club staged Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music at the Bristol Hippodrome, “a show which was last performed by BLOC 25 years ago”. John Cousins directed his twelfth BLOC production, with musical director Mark Collins and choreographer Jacquie Bell; Vicky Hayes played Maria and Chris Parslow Captain von Trapp. Alison Sutton, who had played “a very pregnant Sister Margaretta” in 1979, returned as Sister Berthe alongside both her daughters. Chairman Peter Sutton thanked treasurer Eric Arnold for 30 years’ service and announced the UK amateur premiere of The Witches of Eastwick as the club’s 50th Hippodrome production in 2005.
