In November 2005 the Bristol Light Opera Club marked its “50th production at the Bristol Hippodrome” with the UK amateur premiere of The Witches of Eastwick, originally produced by Sir Cameron Mackintosh, which chairman Peter Sutton noted “has not been seen in the UK outside of London”. John Cousins directed his 13th BLOC production, with musical director Mark Collins, choreographer Jacquie Bell and “Flying by Foy”; Simon Gregory played Darryl van Horne. Representatives of Cameron Mackintosh Ltd and Josef Weinberger Ltd were welcomed to the “Premiere Night on Wednesday”, and Bibby Financial Services made a donation towards the gala night celebrating the premiere. The programme also reported a Rose Bowl Best Musical nomination for the club’s 2004 The Sound of Music.
